It is impossible to protect your phone number in the current environment..We give our numbers on different apps, at different shopping stores and who knows from where cyber thugs take your number and then they start calling you. Cyber security expert Ritesh Bhatia says that this is called SMS bombing. There are apps on which if you enter someone’s number, they start sending messages in bulk. Similarly, there are softwares with the help of which messages are also sent. There is a limit on these like 50-100, 200-500 messages. The messages will keep coming until this limit is exhausted.
Hackers have developed such automated software programs that repeatedly send OTP SMS messages to mobile phones using OTP i.e. One Time Password Verification APIs i.e. Application Programming Interface.
Now the question is that what should one do if he or she becomes a victim of such calls and message bombing?
Ritesh Bhatia’s advice is to block such numbers, ignore messages and calls. There is no other solution. People sending call messages will automatically stop harassing you after some time. That means you will have to face them until the other person gives up.
Be careful that you too do not become a victim of SMS bombing. Stop giving your phone number while shopping, roaming in the mall, buying something i.e. randomly here and there. Share the number only where absolutely necessary. One more thing, ignore such calls or messages. If you engage with these callers, they will harass you more. They sometimes create emotional pressure as well. They will tell you that they are calling for your benefit and ask you why are you scolding them and so on. Your time is also valuable, so do not get entangled in conversations with them and save yourself from a big fraud.
