Hyundai Creta slipped to 6th place with 12,463 units sold last month. It became the best-selling SUV for April 2021.

Hyundai’s compact SUV Creta has turned out to be the top driver for the company. The company has managed to sell more than 1.21 lakh units of Creta since its introduction in the Indian market last year, making it the top-selling SUV in the country.

It has been continuously posting strong sales figures since its launch. This second-gen avatar of the Creta came with a completely redesigned exterior and new engine options.

Hyundai said over 60% of the sales were for the 1.5-litre U2 diesel model. Despite some manufacturers staying away from making diesel cars the results clearly indicate that most people still prefer to go for diesel engines. Another trend is the preference for automatic transmission and top-trim models. Over 20% of the people opted for automatic transmissions. The new Creta is offered with a host of different automatic transmissions including IVT, 6-speed torque converter, and even a 7-speed DCT.

Hyundai Creta competes majorly with Kia Seltos. Creta sold 1.2 lakh units while 1 lakh units of Seltos were sold during the same period.

MG Hector, Tata Harrier and Mahindra XUV 500 are other major rivals of Creta, but comparatively sales-wise they are far behind it. Hector sold 30,736 units, Tata Harrier’s sales stood at 17,825 Units and Mahindra XUV500 pulled out 7,315 cars in the last one year which is way less than the Hyundai Creta.

Hector, Harrier, and XUV500 are a half-size larger in dimensions than the other models in the segment. The Hector, though, is the largest of the lot, in terms of length and wheelbase. The recently updated Harrier is the widest of the lot while the XUV500 is the tallest.

While, the new Hyundai Creta comes equipped with a host of features such as an Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Hold, Paddle Shifters, ventilated front seats, driver rearview monitor, smartphone wireless charger, etc. It is available in different powertrain options that include a 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine (6MT/ IVT), a 1.5-litre U2 CRDi diesel motor (6MT/ 6AT), and a 1.4-litre Kappa Turbo GDi petrol unit (7DCT).
