Airtel Payments Bank has rolled out two new prepaid cards for its customers. One is debit card for savings account holders and the other is a pre-paid card for wallet users. Both the cards are National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC) enabled and will be operated by India’s card network provider, RuPay. As both the prepaid instruments are NCMC enabled, customers can use those during transit in metros, buses, parking, etc across the country. Ganesh Ananthanarayanan, Chief Operating Officer of Airtel Payments Bank said, both the cards have been launched to support India’s vision of One Nation, One Card. Customers can order the debit card on Airtel Thanks app. While, the rollout of the wallet prepaid card is still in process. It will be very soon available for subscription.
Customers can use any of the cards to make safe, secure and contactless payments at all merchant establishments, online (e-commerce), as well as offline NCMC transit transactions. At metro stations, commuters would just have to tap and go at the gates without the hassle to get in queues and purchase tickets. They will also get concessions and monthly passes wherever supported by the transport operator. It will eliminate the necessity to buy and handle multiple cards for various transport operators.
The Airtel Payments Bank has partnered with National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to launch these interoperable cards powered by RuPay. Both cards are being made from eco-friendly e-PVC material, which is certified for its environmental sustainability. The adoption of these cards allows Airtel Payments Bank to make a significant positive impact on the environment.
