SBI debit cards: Here's how you can generate PIN sitting at home

A customer can generate his PIN within a minute but has to visit an ATM to validate or change it

In 2019-20 banks reported ATM-debit card, credit card and internet banking related frauds amounting to Rs 244 crore.

Among the facilities extended by State Bank of India to its customers during the pandemic time is the generation of debit card PINs without visiting the branch or an ATM.

One can generate this green PIN through IVRS, mobile banking, SMS or phone banking.

Here is a guide.

SMS

Cardholders can generate the Green PIN by sending an SMS from their registered mobile number.

Step 1: Send an SMS from the registered phone number to 567676. In the SMS body the customer should write ‘PIN last 4 digit of ATM card last 4 digit of the savings account’ i.e. ‘PIN XXXX YYYY’ to 567676.

Step 2: Once the SMS is sent, the cardholder will receive an OTP on the registered mobile number. The OTP will be valid for 2 days.

Step 3: The cardholder needs to use it to generate debit card PIN by visiting their nearest SBI ATM.

IVR System

You are required to call on the SBI toll-free number 1800 112 211 or 1800 425 3800 from your registered mobile number.

Before initiating this process, keep your ATM card and account number handy.

Step 1: After calling the tollfree number you have to press 2 for ATM/Debit card related services.

Step 2: Then press 1 for PIN generation.

Step 3: Then by pressing 1 you will confirm that you are calling from the registered mobile number or else press 2 to speak with a customer care agent.

Step 4: Now you have to enter the last 5 digits of your ATM card for which you want to generate the PIN. Again press 1 to confirm the last 5 digits of the ATM card.

Step 5: Next, you will be asked to enter the last 5 digits of your account number. Press 1 to confirm or press 2 to re-enter.

Step 6: Next you will have to enter your year of birth.

Step 7: The PIN will be generated and sent to your registered mobile number instantly.

Step 8: You will be required to change the received PIN within 24 hours by visiting your nearest SBI ATM.

Internet Banking

If you are a SBI Net Banking user, follow these simple steps to generate the PIN of your ATM card.

Step 1: Visit onlinesbi.com and login to your account by entering the user ID and password.

Step 2: Once logged in, select ‘ATM card services’ under the tab ‘e-services’.

Step 3: Select ‘ATM PIN Generation’. There are two options via which ATM pin can be generated – using a one-time password (OTP) or using a profile password.

Step 4: If you choose by OTP, an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP in the required field. Or, put the profile password and then click ‘Confirm’.

Step 5: You will be required to select the savings account to which your ATM card is linked and click ‘Continue’.

Step 6: Select the ATM card for which PIN has to be generated. Click on submit.

Step 7: Enter the first two digits of a new pin that you want to create. The remaining two digits will be sent to you through SMS.

Step 8: Enter the two digits selected by you earlier and two digits received by you via SMS on your registered mobile number. Click ‘Submit’. You have now successfully generated your Green PIN.
