Nowadays it is almost impossible for us to go out always but we need money for everyday needs. We are lost without the ATM-cum-debit cards that come with our bank accounts.
To cater to customers in these restrictive times SBI has brought six ATM card-related important services at the fingertips of the customers. The bank has urged customers to conduct online transaction or through the YONO app of the bank.
Till date SBI has issued at least 30 crore debit-cum-ATM cards to its customers. Out of this, many lose their cards regularly. Once a card is lost or misplaced, most customers want to block it immediately and get another one reissued.
One can block ATM card within a minute through online platform or mobile app. The customer needs to go to the ‘e-services’ section that has ATM card service option. Once the customer selects the type of services, ‘blocking of ATM card’ option will appear.
By selecting the card number and click the confirm button one can block the ATM card immediately.
SBI has made a number of updates to the ATM card services that customers can utilise through the bank’s internet banking facilities amid pandemic time. One of these services is changing limits of the debit card. The following are the steps to change the withdrawal and purchase limits of a debit card.
Login to SBI internet banking page, click on the ‘e-Services’ tab. Select the ‘ATM Card Services’ option from the list of services. Click on the option titled ‘ATM Card Limit/Channel/Usage Change’.
Choose the card number and select ‘Change Daily Limit’ from the drop-down menu. The limit can be set for either ATM withdrawal or point of sale purchases. Enter the desired limit and click on the ‘submit’ button. The change is made instantly once the details are submitted.
If you have a new debit card, it needs a PIN. SBI customers can generate PIN instantly from home.
One can generate this PIN through IVRS, mobile banking, SMS or phone banking. Cardholders can generate the PIN by sending an SMS from their registered mobile number.
The customer may visit the website of the bank and go to ATM card services. Then by using OTP or using profile password one can generate the PIN.
But the first two digits of ATM PIN is set by the customer and the last two digits will be sent by the bank. Then you have to go to the ATM and set the desired PIN.
If you have a new ATM card in the middle of the pandemic, you have to activate the card first then use it to set PIN.
To activate the ATM-cum-debit card the customer has to visit the SBI website or YONO app. Then go to the e-services segment under the ATM card services.
You have to type in the profile password and then put the card number and then click submit. A four-digit code will send to the registered mobile number, with that number you can set the ATM card PIN.
An account holder can apply for an ATM card with the net banking portal or mobile banking account. The person has to log into the internet banking or mobile banking account using YONO app.
Then choose “e-services” under this section “ATM Card services” option. There one will find ‘request ATM card’ option. Click on “Request ATM/Debit Card” option.
Authenticate the request with an OTP sent to the registered mobile number or through profile password. The account holder will receive a notification about the duration to issue and deliver the SBI ATM card in the register mobile number.
To view all ATM or debit card linked to an account, simply visit online SBI or go to the YONO app. Then click ‘e-services’. You will get ATM/Debit card services under this section. Select the option.
You can see all active ATM cards by entering profile password. You can check the current status of all ATM/debit cards within a minute.
According to Reserve Bank of India data, about 89 crore debit cards were in use till February 2021. Out of these a little less than 30 crore cards were issued by SBI.
On an average about 12 crore debit cards are lost every year in India, of which about 3.5 crore are SBI cards. SBI has a customer base of around 45 crore, far higher than the total population of the US.
