Budget 2024: The government has not made any changes under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. Farmers were hopeful from this year’s budget because it is an election budget, and the government could have increased the amount in the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana to lure farmer voters.

Farmers face disappointment

Farmers are disappointed with this budget. The government has not increased the honorarium amount under this scheme. Not only that, even though there were high expectations for female farmers in this budget, no additional funds have been allocated to them. It is being speculated that the number of beneficiaries under this scheme might also decrease.

Hopes for Farmers

Currently, 11 crore farmers across the country receive Rs 6,000 annually under this scheme. However, there was hope in this budget that the amount for male farmers could be increased to Rs 9,000, while the honorarium for female farmers could be doubled to Rs 12,000. Farmers also hoped that the government would prioritize giving Kisan Credit Cards to female farmers and provide a 1% cheaper loan to female farmers compared to others.

No Announcement on Stubble Management

There was also hope for special incentives for stubble management along with a life insurance scheme at cheap rates for farmers. However, farmers are disappointed on all these fronts. It is worth noting that under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, the government remits three installments of Rs 2,000 each, totaling Rs 6,000 annually, to the farmers’ bank accounts for their financial assistance.
