A Money9 Budget Conclave panel discussion hosted by Priyanka Sambhav and featuring Shweta Jain, Founder, Investography, Surabhi Marwah, Gauri Chadha, founder and CEO, Gauri Chadha & Associates, Surabhi Marwah, EY, Partner- Tax, discussed the good, bad and ugly of the budget.

Here’s what they had to say about the Budget:

Shweta Jain, Founder (Rating- Okay)

Some positive steps have been taken by the government. The Asset Reconstruction Company to clean up non-performing assets, the launch of Securities Market Code are positive steps, But there’s no relief for the common man. So I would rate it as an ‘Okay’ budget.

Surabhi Marwah (Rating- Good)

I am happy with the Budget because there is no added cess. The budget is trying to make life simpler. The reduction in time for reopening of assessment from 6 to 3 years, relief for senior citizens, digital assessments and relief for non-resident Indians. This will ensure compliance.

Gauri Chadha (Rating- Okay)

It’s a small relief that no new taxes have been added, but a lot more could have been done. The ITR form will be pre-filled with details of capital gains, dividend income which is a big relief. But, the common man had expected a tax cut and that did not happen.
