The Union ministry of health and family welfare said on Friday that there are ten states in India that account for the majority of the new covid-19 infections. These states include Maharashtra, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Rajasthan. These states account for 73.05 per cent of new covid-19 cases reported in a day.
The ministry said that more than 19 lakh covid-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, making it the highest single-day test done in India.
Maharashtra has reported the highest daily new cases at 66,159, followed by Kerala 38,607 and Uttar Pradesh 35,104. Maharashtra also saw a maximum of 771 fatalities, followed by Delhi with 395 daily deaths.
According to the ministry data, these eleven states — Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Bihar — cumulatively account for 78.18 percent of India’s total active cases. The national mortality rate which is experiencing a fall currently stands at 1.11 per cent.
India has reported the highest single-day rise of 3,86,452 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours. According to the Union health ministry data, the total tally of covid-19 cases has now reached 1,87,62,976, while active cases crossed the 31-lakh mark.
With 3,498 fresh fatalities, the death toll has increased to 2,08,330 as per the ministry’s updated data.
