The price of DRDO’s 2DG anti-Covid-19 drug has been capped at Rs 990 per sachet by pharma major Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories. 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2DG) is an oral antiviral drug for Covid-19 patients who have developed oxygen dependency due to the infection.
The mass production of 2-DG is expected to begin in the first week of June.
The drug is slated to be launched commercially in mid-June.
According to reports the drug will be provided at a discounted price to the government hospitals, state governments, and central government.
The Union defence minister Rajnath Singh and Union health minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan had released the first batch of anti-Covid drug 2DG on 17th May 2021.
Congratulating DRDO, Union defence minister Rajnath Singh had said that is a great example of the scientific prowess of our country.
Earlier this month, the Drugs Controller General of India (DGCI) had also approved the oral drug for emergency use as an adjunct therapy in moderate to severe coronavirus patients.
As per the trial, the drug 2-DG will reduce the symptoms of Covid-19 among patients quickly. The recovery of corona patients administered 2-DG was observed faster than those who were not. The drug will also help to reduce the dependence on oxygen in corona patients who have moderate to severe symptoms. The government has also affirmed that this drug will give great relief to the covid-19 patients.
