COVID-19: Over 12,000 cases in Delhi; positivity rate dips below 20%

New Delhi: Delhi has reported 319 more covid-19 fatalities and 12,651 new infections on Monday. This has been the lowest in four weeks, with a positivity rate of 19.10 % as per the state health department.

The dip in new cases can also be because of a smaller number of tests (66,234) conducted on 9 May.

At 19.10 %, the positivity rate is the lowest since April 16, when it stood at 19.7 %, according to government data.

The positivity rate has remained above the 20 % mark since April 17.

On April 22, a positivity rate of 36.2 %, the highest so far, was recorded.

Delhi had reported 13,336 cases on 9 May, 17,364 on 8 May, 19,832 on 7 May, 19,133 on 6 May, 20,960 on 5 May, 19,953 on 4 May, 18,043 on 3 May that was last Monday.

The city had witnessed 273 deaths on 9 May, 332 deaths on 8 May, 341 on 7 May, 335 on 6 May, 311 on 5 May, 338 on 4 May, 448 on 3 May. The national capital conducted 66,234 tests, including 57,265 RTPCR/CBNAAT/ tests on 9 May.

Over 13,300 people recovered from the infection during the period, the health bulletin said.

There are 85,258 active cases in the city and 52,451 of them are in home isolation, it said.

The number of cumulative cases stands at 13,36,218 and the death toll at 19,663. Over 12.31 lakh people have either recovered, migrated out, or have been discharged, according to a health bulletin.

Of the 22,667 hospital beds for coronavirus patients in the city, 3,229 are vacant, it said.
