The vaccine registration for all those above 18 years of age started on the CoWIN portal at 4 p.m today. But the site suffered a technical glitch as the registration opened at 4 pm. The CoWIN site displayed an error message saying: “CoWIN server is facing issues. Please try later.”

Many people who visited the site for registration complained about the technical problem they faced, on the social media platforms. This was fixed soon and people began booking their slots for the vaccination appointment.

The Twitter handle of Aarogya Setu, the government’s app for contact tracing and dissemination of medical advisories to contain the spread of COVID-19, tweeted saying, “Cowin Portal is working. There was a minor glitch at 4 PM that was fixed. 18 plus can register.”

As per the government sources, more than 35 lakh people have registered on CoWIN site after 4 pm. The sources said that the appointments have been based on the slots made available by states and private vaccination centers.

The vaccinations will begin for everyone above 18 from May 1, under a more ‘liberalized and accelerated Phase 3 strategy of COVID-19 vaccination’.

Those who want to take the vaccine have to register on CoWIN portal: https://www.cowin.gov.in/home and click on the “register/sign-in” option. They can also use CoWIN app, Aarogya Setu app, and Umang app for registering.

India has recorded 3.6 lakh new cases in the last 24 hours, with 3,293 fresh fatalities.
