In Karnataka, well known Cardiologist Dr Devi Shetty-headed expert committee submitted its interim report to the Chief Minister today on the preparations needed for the possible third Covid wave. After holding discussion with the Committee members, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa informed media persons in Bengaluru that the Committee has made suggestions to open Children High Dependency units and ICUs with Oxygen facilities in Taluk and District hospitals and Medical colleges.
It has asked the Government to address the problem of malnutrition among the children. The Committee has also suggested that NGOs and the corporate sector must be involved to augment manpower requirements like child specialists, other doctors, nurses and psychiatrists. Since the third wave is expected to infect children more, the Committee has asked the Government to take up vaccination of college teachers and students before phase wise opening of the colleges. Yediyurappa said that vaccination of college students and teachers will be accelerated.
