The Delhi High Court has sought the Delhi government’s view on a PIL seeking to limit the prices of HRCT test. A bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jasmeet Singh directed the Delhi government to present its view in this regard.

The petition said that at present, the cost of conducting HRCT in Delhi is between Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000. Therefore, price regulation is very important at this time.

It further added that in view of the present situation in Delhi, it is extremely important to regulate the prices of HRCT.

A PIL was filed in the Delhi High Court requesting the Delhi government to limit the prices of High Resolution Computerized Tomography (HRCT), which is used to detect the presence and severity of lung infections in Covid-19 patients.

The bench issued the notice on the petition filed by advocate Shivleen Pasricha. This petition claimed that RT-PCR is the most common test for the detection of Covid-19 in suspected or potential patients.

What is the HRCT test?

HRCT test or High Resolution Computed Tomography is used to assess the severity of Covid-19 infection. In many cases, despite the symptoms, RT-PCR comes negative. In such circumstances, HRCT is recommended by doctors.

Covid-19 is confirmed by the CORADS score in the HRCT test. CORADS stands for Covid-19 Reporting Data System, which measures the impact of virus infection. If the CORADS score is 1, it means that there is no corona infection, while the score between 2-4 indicates the possibility of exposure to the virus, and score 5 and 6 means that Covid-19 is confirmed.
