Every Indian above the age of 18 and below 45 is now eligible for Covid-19 vaccination. But due to vaccine shortage and excessive customer load on Co-WIN platforms, many people lost out on immediate slot booking for the jab and will have to wait further.
To provide some relief to the situation, a new website has recently been created – getjab.in – which aims to notify people in the age group of 18 to 45 years with an email as soon as slots open in their area.
Developed by a group of four friends – Azhar Hussain, Shyam Sunder, Anurag Kishore and Akshay Nautiyal, the website is still in a nascent stage and has a single registration page.
“The idea to create the website came from a simple thought. We wanted to help friends and family who were stuck in bad situations to at least verify contacts of critical medicines/resources for them. In the middle of this, we also had to keep a continuous tab on the availability of vaccination slots. Checking this manually on the site now and then was very difficult. Thus getjab.in was born,” the website founders told Money9.
Once you log in to the website, there’s a stand-alone registration form that needs to be filled. It requires your name, district, mail ID, and phone number (optional). An email notification is sent once vaccine slots are available in your district.
“We are providing notification service – the hosting costs for which are completely borne by us,” founders stated.
Getjab.in is hosted on carrd.com which is a platform to build single-page websites.
The website uses public APIs like the official government portal Co-WIN, as available on API Setu to fetch available slots and alert users who have registered against the district which now has available slots. Currently, users are notified by mail but the facility for SMS alerts is also under development.
While getjab.in promises to not misuse any user data. “The data is not exposed publicly anywhere. We are aware of the sensitivity that is why the phone field is optional. Our personal accounts are attached precisely for accountability,” Akshay Nautiyal, a Quant Finance professional and co-founder of getjab.in said.
The website is still gaining popularity and requires further expansion to benefit maximum people.
“We have received good feedback over social media and have seen instances of people being able to really benefit from this service,” Nautiyal added.
Meanwhile, if you’re 18 years+ and want to register for Covid-19 vaccination, visit the Co-WIN portal to do the needful.
