In a huge relief to those suffering from coronavirus, the price of remdevisir has been slashed by nearly 50%.
The Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilisers, Department of Pharmaceuticals in a notification said that on the intervention of the government, the major manufacturers/marketers of remdesivir have reported voluntary reduction in Maximum Retail Price (MRP).
The companies will now be selling the drug in the range of Rs 899-3,490 per vial from the earlier price of 2,800-5,400 per vial.
The recent spurt in Covid cases has suddenly led to an unprecedented demand for remdesivir.
Cadila Healthcare, Syngene International, Dr Reddy’s, Cipla, Mylan (now Viatris), Jubilant Generics and Hetero Healthcare are contract manufacturers of the intravenous drug.
