You can now pay various utility bills on Flipkart in addition to shopping. The e-commerce site already had options for electricity bill payments and mobile prepaid recharges. But now users can also pay for Fastag, DTH recharges, landline, broadband, and mobile postpaid bills on the app. You can even get cashback on these payments.
A few months ago, the company had also introduced UPI services. Now it is adding new features to its digital payment services. Flipkart launched its UPI service in partnership with Axis Bank. This equipped users to perform transactions, recharges, and bill payments through the e-commerce app.
Flipkart has now partnered with the digital payment platform BillDesk for its bill payment services, and has integrated new features with the Bharat Bill Payments System (BBPS). After the launch of these new services, the company says users will have the convenience of paying their bills while shopping online.
Recently, the company has taken several initiatives to enter the digital payment sector. This new move shows that Flipkart is intensifying its efforts to expand in the fintech sector.
The e-commerce company recently launched its digital payment platform, super.money, which is currently in beta mode. This platform offers UPI services and provides cashback and rewards for shopping on e-commerce sites like Flipkart, Myntra, and Shopsy. The app went live on the Google Play Store on June 23rd. Flipkart also aims to introduce a “superCard” credit card, “superCash” pre-approved loan services, and “superDeposit” fixed deposit services through this app.
With its entry into the fintech sector, the company will compete with former subsidiary PhonePe and companies like Google Pay, Paytm, and Jio Financial Services.
Regarding Flipkart’s business expansion, the company is preparing to re-enter the quick commerce space for the third time. According to media reports, Flipkart is gearing up to try its luck in the quick commerce sector again. Previously it had launched but failed with this service twice.
As India’s largest e-commerce company with an already vast user base, Flipkart is clearly aiming to leverage this base with new services and fully utilize the digital ecosystem.
For users, this is a win-win situation. As increased competition in the fintech sector will lead to better services, more cashback, and rewards. Plus, frequent users of the Flipkart app will have the opportunity to enjoy both shopping and fintech services in one place.
