On Friday, Union minister Narayan Rane claimed that retail prices of petrol and diesel had increased due to the higher import cost of crude oil, PTI reported. While speaking with reporters he said that fuel prices have touched record levels this year and certain things are not in government’s hands.
When asked as to whether the common man will get any relief from rising fuel prices, Rane said that he will take up issues with the right personnel. The minister was in Ratnagiri district of coastal Maharashtra as part of his ‘Jan Ashirwad Yatra’, the BJP’s mass contact programme.
According to estimates, India imports over 80% of its oil needs and more than 50% of its gas requirement.
