The Income Tax Department has issued refunds worth over Rs 43,991 crore till July 26, to more than 21.03 lakh tax payers in the current fiscal, it said Friday. Out of the total amount refunded, personal income tax comprised of Rs 13,341 crore and corporate tax refunds amounted to Rs 30,651 crore.
In a tweet this afternoon from the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) it said that the refunds of over Rs 43,991 crores would be issued to more than 21.03 lakh taxpayers between 1st April, 2021 and 26th July, 2021. It also added that Income tax refunds of Rs 13,341 crores have been issued in more than 19 lakh cases & corporate tax refunds of Rs 30,651 crore have been issued in 1,12,567 cases.

In May this year, the I-T department issued refunds of Rs 25,301 crore to more than 15.45 lakh taxpayers. Out of the total amount, personal income tax refunds tuned up to Rs 7,494 crore and was issued in over 15 lakh cases. Corporate tax refunds was at Rs 17,807 crore and was issued to 44,140 taxpayers.
The CBDT has also extended the ITR filing deadline for companies by a month till November 30
