Ayodhya is back in the news for a different reason. Bollywood star Akshay Kumar will visit Ayodhya on March 18 for the mahurat shot of “Ram Setu”, his upcoming movie, at Ram Janmabhoomi.
Mahurat shot is a ritual that is followed by the entire industry to kick off the shooting exercise of a film.
Kumar will play the role of an archaeologist in the film. Jacqueline Fernandez and Nushrratt Bharuccha will also star in the film.
Kumar, the film’s director Abhishek Sharma and creative producer Chandraprakash Dwivedi are expected to reach Ayodhya on March 18 for the mahurat shot.
The movie will be shot at multiple locations. However, more than 80% of the project will be based in Mumbai.
“What better way to embark upon the journey of ‘Ram Setu’ than to kick-off at the very birth place of Lord Ram…. We are scheduled to hold our mahurat shot in Ayodhya and commence our filming on an auspicious note,” Dwivedi told the media.
In November 2020, Akshay Kumar announced about the film Ram Setu on social media.
Posting the photo of a poster of the film on Instagram he wrote, “This Deepawali, let us endeavor to keep alive the ideals of Ram in the consciousness of all Bharatiyas by building a bridge (setu) that will connect generations to come. Taking this mammoth task ahead, here is our humble attempt – RAM SETU! Wishing you & yours a very Happy Deepawali!”
In the movie, Kumar will explore whether the bridge (Ram Setu) is a myth or reality.
Kumar’s character is inspired by a few professional archaeologists from India and abroad.
His looks on screen will take the fans by surprise, said director Sharma.
“I first read newspaper coverage about a court case related to a project to build a shipping canal in the shallow straits between India and Sri Lanka and the issues that the project was facing. I found this to be an opportunity to explore the truth behind an Indian legend and was amazed at the magnitude of the subject. I was being presented with the possibility to bring forward a true story that would connect generations of Indians to a part of our heritage that was not getting the attention it deserved,” Sharma said.
