Reliance Group’s OTT platform Jio Cinema has started charging fees. Now you will have to subscribe for premium subscription of Jio Cinema just like Amazon Prime Video, Disney + Hotstar and Netflix. Jio Cinema has priced its premium subscription plan at Rs 999. Under this plan, the company is providing Jio Cinema subscription to the users for 12 months.
Viacom18 Network, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, has said that movies and shows like Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Succession and Discovery will soon be available on the Jio Cinema app. Under this plan, users can login to their account on four devices simultaneously at a subcription rate of Rs 999.
To air these and other shows, a deal has been made with Hollywood’s well-known production house Warner Brothers. After this deal, Jio Cinema will give direct competition to Amazon Prime Video and Disney Hotstar.
However, it was already suspected that the company is strengthening the base of the first users by giving free service like Jio mobile phone. By broadcasting IPL matches for free, the company has increased the number of users considerably. According to the data recorded on the Play Store, the Jio Cinema app has been downloaded more than 100 million times so far.
IPL matches are still being telecast free of cost on Jio Cinema. Viacom18 paid Rs 23,758 crore for the digital rights of IPL. By telecasting the IPL free, the company is strengthening its user base. Sooner or later the users of Jio Cinema will be charged a fee. Now the company has started collecting fees in the name of premium content.
