A verbal duel between Priyanka Chopra and Australian journalist Peter Ford that erupted on Twitter has triggered a storm on the platform in support of the actor forcing the journo to delete his tweet.
On March 17, Ford took to Twitter to ask whether Priyanka Chopra and her husband Nick Jonas were ‘qualified enough’ to present the Oscar nominations. “No disrespect to these two but I’m not sure their contribution to movies qualifies them to be announcing Oscar nominees,” Ford wrote as he shared a photo of the couple.
In his introduction on Twitter, the journalist describes himself as “the best & most widely heard entertainment reporter in Australia & NZ. Allegedly”.
Ford was reacting to the tweet of Chopra and her singer husband on Monday announcing the 2021 Oscar nominations.
Responding to Ford’s tweet, Chopra shot back and wrote, “Would love your thoughts on what qualifies someone. Here are my 60+ film credentials for your adept consideration.”
She also shared a montage of the films she was associated with.
Earlier Chopra had written on Twitter, “We just got nominated for an Oscar! Congratulations Ramin and team #TheWhiteTiger. Somehow announcing myself made it so much more special. So so proud.”
Priyanka has 27.1 millions followers on Twitter. After her response, Ford deleted his tweet.
The actor’s response triggered a number of fans coming out in her support. Some advised her to ignore such naysayers.
One of the fans also advised Peter Ford to watch Barfi, a film by Anurag Basu in which Chopra acted, and to read about the actor on the Internet.
One of the fans wrote, “Peter Ford’s opinion is bull****. Priyanka was an executive producer of The White Tiger, a hit Netflix movie that was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars. That alone makes her qualified to announce the Oscars, never mind the other 60+ film credits she has,” retorted a fan tagging Ford.
Priyanka Chopra’s upcoming projects include the fourth Matrix movie and Text For You for which she recently completed filming in London.
