A video featuring nine students of class XI of St Francis De Sales School in Guwahati was recorded on February 7 after a couple of days of rehearsal.
“During the lockdown when students were missing school life, we thought of putting something like it together. I wanted to do something that you have things moving and joy, mirth and joie de vivre,” said Barsha Das, dance teacher of the school, who choreographed it.
With the school closed, shooting was an easy affair and the students participated enthusiastically.
“All the students are dance enthusiasts and all of them excelled,” said Das, who is trained in Bharatnatyam and has been teaching dance since 2009.
The participants for sure knew a step or two.
Sandhyapriya Barman and Aman Subedi, two students who participated in the video, said they don’t miss the dance reality shows like Jhalak Dikhla Ja and Super Dancer on TV.
Barman, who is aspiring to be a fashion designer and preparing for the entrance tests in NIFT, is training in Sattriya, a classical dance for of Assam. “I have been dancing since I was four,” gushed Barman.
Subedi is not undergoing training like her but never misses to shake a leg. “I like to dance to Bollywood numbers. I also have a taste for hip hop,” he said.
The dance was first shown in the online parents’ day of the school this year in February.
The school has about 1,750 students in classes I to XII.
