Stock market update: Banking shares climb up to 2.5%

Banking stocks were trading in the positive zone, with the S&P BSE BANKEX index rising 664.84 points or 1.63% at 41500.74 at 09:48 IST.

Nifty PSU Bank, closing 2.40% higher on reports of progress in privatization, was the top sectoral gainer

Among the components of the S&P BSE BANKEX index, RBL Bank Ltd (up 2.28%), Axis Bank Ltd (up 2.22%), IndusInd Bank Ltd (up 2.15%), Federal Bank Ltd (up 1.81%), ICICI Bank Ltd (up 1.54%), were the top gainers. Among the other gainers were HDFC Bank Ltd (up 1.5%), City Union Bank Ltd (up 1.44%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd (up 1.27%), State Bank of India (up 1.18%), and Bandhan Bank Ltd (up 0.67%).

At 09:48 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 443.3 or 0.86% at 51987.6.

The Nifty 50 index was up 124.4 points or 0.82% at 15287.7.

The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was up 63.77 points or 0.32% at 19685.82.

The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was up 29.53 points or 0.45% at 6629.55.

On BSE,1378 shares were trading in green, 975 were trading in red and 114 were unchanged.
