Beleaguered telecom operator Vodafone Idea (Vi) has claimed to have recorded a peak speed of 3.7 gigabit per second (gbps), on Sunday during 5G trials in Pune. This is reportedly the highest speed recorded by any operator in India.
The company, which has been allocated high-frequency bands like 26 gigahertz (Ghz) along with the traditional 3.5 GHz spectrum band by the government, claims to have recorded a download speed of 1.5 gbps.
“In Pune city, Vi has deployed its 5G trial in a lab setup of endto-end captive network of Cloud Core, new generation Transport and Radio Access Network. In this trial, Vi has achieved peak speed in excess of 3.7 Gbps with very low latency on the mmWave spectrum band. These speeds were achieved with state-of-the-art equipment in 5G Non-Standalone network architecture and using NR Radios,” the company said in a statement.
In May, the telecom department has approved the applications of Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone to conduct the trials. The permission has been granted for six-month trials with telecom gear makers Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung and C-DOT.
Jio and Bharti Airtel have reportedly clocked a peak speed of 1 gbps during the trials.
All the private players are providing 4G services across the country at present and gearing up for 5G.
