Like Facebook and Twitter, Aarogya Setu will also feature a blue tick beside your name once your vaccination is done.

A blue tick will now appear against the names of people once they take one dose of the vaccine. After both the doses, two blue ticks will be displayed.

The step has been designed to indicate to everyone that the person has undergone vaccination has triggered questions whether it could be used as a ‘gate pass’ at different public places that seek vaccination certificates for admission.

Verification

Officials from the Union Health Ministry also confirmed the development. This app is the one common platform from tracing, administering vaccines and address other issues related to Covid-19. This app was launched in April 2020 at the onset of the first wave.

Since then, all coronavirus related issues have been addressed through this platform. From January 2021, slot booking for vaccination has also been enabled through the app using CoWin platform.

This app is currently maintained by the National Informatics Centre (NIC). All the lab data are imported here from ICMR portal itself.

‘Gate pass’

Welcoming the move, industry veterans wondered whether it could be used by the government as a ‘gate pass’ in airports, railway stations and other public places where proof of vaccination might be needed.

“According to the new rules you don’t need to carry hardcopies of driving license and registration certificate when you drive since everything is digitised. The government has already made the Aarogya Setu app mandatory. Now they should also consider making this blue tick as the gate pass. This will obviate the need of carrying hard copies of vaccination certificate,” said Subhasish Roy, deputy director general, MCC chamber of commerce.
