India is a country with a population of over 130 crore and Railways has always provided affordable travel facilities to cater to the needs of the citizens.
Railways has now rolled out its first-ever AC 3-tier economy class coach, which will cut down the travel cost for passengers in the AC 3 tier.
Piyush Goyal, Minister of Railways, Piyush Goyal shared a 38-second clip on his Twitter handle on February 11 which showed glimpses of the new coach. The video highlighted interesting features of the new economy AC coach.

The Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coach was rolled out from rail coach factory (RCF) Kapurthala to research, design, and standards organization (RDSO) Lucknow for the upcoming trial. Linke Hofmann Busch coaches are the passenger coaches of Indian Railways that have been developed by Linke-Hofmann-Busch of Germany and mostly produced by Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala, India.
RCF was working on the design from October 2020 and RCF plans to manufacture 248 such coaches during the current and next fiscal year.
Features
The design of the coach has individual AC vents for each berth and high voltage electric switchgear below the frame.
The interior of the coach has luminescent berth numbers, illuminated berth indicators with night lights, and luminescent aisle markers.
The coach will have 83 berths — an increase of 11 berths.
The coach provides individual reading lights and mobile charging points are provided for each berth.
The coach will have fire-proof berths which are o high standards as they comply with the world benchmark of EN45545-2 HL3 for materials.
Modified ladders for climbing middle and upper berths, A new ergonomically improved design of ladder for accessing the middle and upper berths is also a new feature. There is an increased headroom in the middle and upper berths.
