Time magazine’s prestigious annual list of 100 most influential personalities in the world for 2024 includes eight Indians in its ranks, namely, Bollywood actress and entrepreneur Alia Bhatt, Olympic medalist Sakshi Malik and World Bank, president Ajay Banga, amongst others.
Sakshi Malik, India’s only female Olympic medalist in wrestling, is currently protesting against the alleged sexual harassment of women wrestlers by former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Alia Bhatt has been included in the list for her contribution in the field of acting as well as social welfare work.
Along with these, Indo-British Hollywood actor Dev Patel and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella have also been featured in the list. Jigar Shah, director of the Loan Program Office of the US Department and born in Modasa, Gujarat, has also made it to the list.
World Bank president Ajay Banga, who also found a place in the list, was born in Pune, Maharashtra. Other Indian names in the list include famous chef Asma Khan, who was born in Kolkata and is the owner of London’s famous restaurant Darjeeling Express. It also subsumes professor Priyamvada Natarajan, of the Department of Astronomy and Physics at Yale University. Priyamvada Natarajan was born in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, and is known worldwide for her research and study on black holes.
