The Great Indian Festival (GIF), Amazon India’s flagship festive sale will begin on October 4, 2021. It will be a month-long sale programme. The festive sale will include participation from over 75,000 local sellers. There are over 8.5 lakh sellers on its platform. Over 1,000 new products will be launched in the festive sale programme from brands such as Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Levi’s, Adidas, American Tourister, Pedigree and others. The products from Amazon sellers under various programs like Amazon Launchpad, Amazon Saheli and Amazon Karigar will also be sold on the platform under GIF. With the festive season around, many e-commerce sites will offer online sale during Dussehra and Diwali. ‘The Big Billion Days’ sale by Flipkart will also start taking place between October 7-12.
Amazon India Vice President Manish Tiwary told, “The Great Indian Festival of 2021 is a celebration of the resilience of local shops and small and medium sellers. We are humbled by their spirit and delighted with the opportunity to partner and enable their growth, especially in view of recent challenges owing to the pandemic.”
A survey conducted by Nielsen found that the sellers on Amazon’s e-commerce site are optimistic about this festive season. Over 98% of the surveyed sellers said technology adoption and e-commerce have positively impacted their business.
The business sees growth during the festive season. Many e-commerce sites have ramped up their capacity to deal with the spike in orders. Facilities like EMI and the ‘Buy Now Pay Later’ option will further improve the sales.
Three broad categories – electronics, fashion and everyday essentials – are likely to do well during GIF 2021, Tiwary said.
“During Diwali festival, the customers have multiple shopping needs and I would bucket it in three broad areas, first is electronics, second is everything around fashion and beauty, the third one which is a critical bucket is everyday needs, everything from home to grocery,” he added.
More than 1.1 lakh seasonal job opportunities have been created by Amazon across its operations network. Their storage capacity has been expanded by 40% with more than 60 fulfilment centres in 15 states offering 43 million cubic feet to its sellers.
