Business travel picks up on the back of good vaccination rates: Report

As of October 17, a total of 3,27,923 passengers travelled on 2,372 flights within India, the highest ever since the beginning of the pandemic

Due to good vaccination rates, declining fresh cases and ease of restrictions, business travel has been picking up pace, which comes as a huge relief for the battered aviation, travel and hospitality sectors, according to a Business Standard report. According to a findings of a recent study, over 78% of Indians are eager to restart business trips, which is higher than global average. Thomas Cook (India) reported a 40% recovery on pre-Covid volumes from our business travellers, marking the return of corporate confidence in air travel.

ADRs of IHCL improves by Rs 5,000

It added that the demand is not limited to large corporate houses, but also includes the SME segment too. Vistara on the other hand reported a marginal increase in demand in the last couple of months, but a complete rebound in corporate travel is going to take some more time, it added.

The airline attributed this to the vaccination drive, employees returning to workplaces and travel related to corporate trends.

The Indian Hotels Companies Limited (IHCL)  said that corporate demand is showing good signs of recovery and bookings for conferences have also begun, but with restrictions in various cities. If the occupancy stabilises at a higher level, the Average Daily Rate (ADR) too will recover, it added.

The ADRs at the luxury brands of IHCL in Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi have improved to Rs 8,000 in the September quarter from Rs 3,000 in the June quarter. But, still lags behind the Rs 15,000 mark of 2019-20.
