Covid-19: India records 25,072 cases in the last 24 hours

The number of people who have recovered from the disease rose to 3,16,80,626, with the recovery rate at 97.63%, data from the health ministry showed.

The active cases comprise 1.03% of the total infections, the lowest since March last year

India has reported 25,072 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the lowest in 160 days, taking the tally to 3,24,49,306 on August 23. The death toll rose to 4,34,756 with 389 fresh fatalities, according to Union health ministry data. The active cases comprise 1.03% of the total infections, the lowest since March last year. A reduction of 19,474 cases has been recorded in the active caseload in a span of 24 hours. India’s Active caseload stands at 3,33,924, the lowest in 155 days.

India’s Covid-19 tally had crossed the grim milestone of the one-crore mark on December 19, 2020. By May 4, it had crossed two crores and as of June 23, the number of cases had risen to three crores.

The weekly positivity rate stands at 1.91% and has been below 3% for the last 59 days, the ministry said. The daily positivity rate stands at 1.94%. It has been less than 3% for the last 28 days, according to the ministry.

Covid-19 tests and vaccination drive

As many as 12,95,160 tests were conducted on Sunday taking the total cumulative tests conducted so far for detection of Covid-19 in the country to 50.75 crores.

Also, 58.25 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered under the nationwide vaccination drive.
