India has reported 28,204 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. It is the lowest daily count in 147 days. The total recoveries across the country so far are 3,11,80,968. According to the health ministry’s data, 41,511 patients recovered during the last 24 hours.
The active caseload is currently at 3,88,508, the lowest in 139 days. The cumulative total of cases till now is 3.19 crore. The national recovery rate of Covid-19 has increased to 97.45% with 41,511 patients recovering during the last 24 hours till 8:00 am. The active cases constitute 1.21% of total cases, the lowest since Mar 2020.
The weekly positivity rate stands below 5%, at 2.36%. The daily positivity rate currently stands at 1.87%, less than 3% for the last 15 days.
The testing capacity has also been substantially ramped up to 48.32 crores in the country.
Vaccination drive
Cumulative vaccine doses administered so far have reached 51.45 crores.
More than 52.56 crore (52,56,35,710) vaccine doses have been provided to states and UTs so far, through all sources and a further 48,43,100 doses are in the pipeline.
Of this, the total consumption including wastages is 51,09,58,562 doses (as per data available at 8 AM today).
More than 2.07 Cr (2,07,55,852) balance and unutilized Covid vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs and private hospitals to be administered.
The new phase of universalisation of the vaccination programme commenced from June 21. Under the programme, the central government made inoculation free of cost for all adults. Vaccines were earlier free for people above 45 years of age.
The government will procure and supply free of cost 75% of the vaccines being produced by vaccine manufacturers in the country to states /UTs, it said.
More than 70% of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities, according to the ministry.
India crossed the grim milestone of two crore on May 4 and three crore on June 23.
