India has reported over 36,083 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally of cases to 3,21,92,576, while the death toll rose to 4,31,225 with 493 fresh fatalities, according to the Union health ministry data on August 15.
The data also showed an increase of 2,337 cases in the active Covid-19 caseload in the last 24 hours, with the total active caseload currently at 3,85,336 (1.20% of the total infections).
India’s Covid-19 tally had crossed the grim milestone of the one-crore mark on December 19 2020. By May 4, it had crossed two crores and as of June 23, the number of cases had risen to three crores.
The weekly positivity rate was recorded at 2%, while the daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.88% and has been less than 3% for the last 19 days, data stated.
The number of people who have recovered from the disease rose to 3,13,76,015, with the recovery rate at 97.46%, data from the health ministry showed.
Deaths and fatalities
The 493 fatalities reported on Sunday include 179 from Maharashtra and 105 from Kerala. Overall, a total of 4,31,225 deaths have been reported so far in the country, including 1,34, 909 from Maharashtra, 36,958 from Karnataka, 34,496 from Tamil Nadu, 25,069 from Delhi, 22,783 from Uttar Pradesh, 18,499 from Kerala and 18,291 from West Bengal. The health ministry stressed that more than 70% of the deaths have occurred due to comorbidities.
Covid-19 tests and vaccination drive
The testing capacity has substantially ramped up to 49.36 crore tests total conducted. Cumulatively, 54.38 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered till Sunday, data showed.
The health ministry further added on its website, that the state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
