India has reported over 38,667 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally of cases to 3,21,56,493, while the death toll rose to 4,30,732 with 478 fresh fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry data on August 14.
The data also showed an increase of 2,446 cases in the active Covid-19 caseload in last 24 hours, with the total active caseload currently at 3,87,673 (1.21% of the total infections).
India’s Covid-19 tally had crossed the grim milestone of the one-crore mark on December 19 2020. By May 4, it had crossed two crores and as of June 23, the number of cases had risen to three crores.
The weekly positivity rate was recorded at 2.05% , while the daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.73% and has been less than 3% for the last 19 days, data stated.
The number of people who have recovered from the disease rose to 3,13,38,088, with the recovery rate at 97.45%, data from the Health Ministry showed.
The Ministry also said that the country has reported less than 50,000 daily new cases in the past 48 days.
The 478 fatalities reported on Saturday include 158 from Maharashtra and 114 from Kerala. Overall, a total of 4,30,732 deaths have been reported so far in the country including 1,34,730 from Maharashtra, 36,933 from Karnataka, 34,462 from Tamil Nadu, 25,068 from Delhi, 22,782 from Uttar Pradesh, 18,394 from Kerala and 18,276 from West Bengal. The Health Ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths have occurred due to comorbidities. The fatality rate stands at 1.34%, said the Health Ministry data.
The number of Covid-19 tests conducted on Friday was at 22,29,798, taking the cumulative number of tests conducted so far for the detection of Covid-19 in the country to 49,17,00,577. Cumulatively, 53.61 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered till Saturday, data showed.
The Health Ministry further added on its website, that the state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
