India has reported 30,941 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The total recoveries across the country so far are 3,19,59,680. According to the health ministry’s data, 36,275 patients recovered during the last 24 hours.
The active caseload is currently at 3,70,640 with a cumulative total of 3.27 crore cases. The national recovery rate of Covid-19 has increased to 97.53% with 36,275 patients recovering during the last 24 hours till 8:00 am. The active cases account for less than 2% of total cases, currently at 1.13%.
The weekly positivity rate stands at 2.51%, less than 3% for the last 67 days. The daily positivity rate currently stands at 2.22%.
The testing capacity has also been substantially ramped up to 52.15 crores in the country.
With rising cases, the Tamil Nadu government imposed fresh Covid-19 restrictions till 15 September in the state. All religious places will remain closed from Friday to Sunday, as per the new guidelines. Entry to the beaches will be prohibited on Sundays.
However, chief minister M K Stalin stated that Classes for standard 9th to 12th and colleges will resume as scheduled from September 1.
Cumulative vaccine doses administered so far have reached 64.05 crores.
India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage had crossed the 64 crore landmark milestone on August 30. More than 53 lakh (53,37,042) vaccine doses had been administered, as per the 7 pm provisional report on August 30.
The new phase of universalisation of the vaccination programme commenced from June 21. Under the programme, the central government made inoculation free of cost for all adults. Vaccines were earlier free for people above 45 years of age.
According to the ministry, more than 70% of the deaths that have been reported are due to comorbidities.
On the global level, there has been an air of tension as countries are witnessing a gradual surge in cases.
In the US, the daily average for hospitalised Covid-19 patients is more than 100,000. This average is higher than it was observed during the previous surge except for the last winter. This happens at a time when most American’s have also received vaccinations. In the last two months, the hospitalisation has increased to over 500%. This is straining hospitals and creating a situation of crisis for the healthcare infrastructure.
