India is continuously bolstering its fight against Covid-19 and administering a high number of vaccine doses. It was a milestone for India’s nationwide vaccination drive on August 31 as around 1.33 crore doses of jabs were administered on a single day. This was the second time when 1 crore vaccine doses were administered in one day.
According to the government data, 1,32,45,266 doses were administered on August 31. Out of that, 100,35,652 (1 crore) were first doses, while 32,09,614 were second doses. India had administered 1.08 crore doses on August 27.
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya took to Twitter to laud the vaccination drive for clocking over 1 crore doses in a day for the second time. “Congratulations, as India administers another 1 crore #COVID19 vaccinations today. The highest one-day record of 1.09 crore vaccine doses achieved till 6 pm – and still counting! Under PM Narendra Modi, India is fighting strongly against corona,” tweeted Mandaviya on Tuesday evening.
India also achieved another milestone of administering the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine to over 50 crore people. “Another milestone achieved in the world’s largest vaccination drive under PM Narendra Modi. 50 crore people received their first Covid-19 vaccine dose. I applaud the hard work of Covid warriors and diligence of citizens in helping achieve this momentous feat,” Mandaviya tweeted lauding the effort.
So far 65.41 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered and more than 18.3 crore doses were administered in the month of August, the ministry of health and family welfare (MoHFW) said in a statement.
The Ministry also said that more than 64.51crore vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far through the Government of India (free of cost channel) and through the direct state procurement category.
According to the Union Health Ministry, as on September 1, over 5.21crore balance and unutilized COVID Vaccine doses are still available with the States and UTs to be administered.
