Biological E, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Bharat Biotech and Serum Institute of India are progressing steadily on the Covid-19 vaccine, according to a report in The Economic Times.
The report said these companies are working to tailor their vaccines for new emerging variants of the virus.
Bharat Biotech, Serum Institute of India and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories are set to submit phase-3 data in the coming weeks.
India has till now vaccinated around 10 million healthcare and frontline workers.
On February 19, Dr Reddy’s also urged the drug regulator to get approval for Sputnik V. Russian vaccine Sputnik V has shown the efficacy of 94% and India’s drug regulatory is expected to take up this matter considering the delay that has already happened in the vaccination drive.
Biological E has collaborated with Johnson & Johnson and Baylor College. The company is expected to start phase-3 trials with candidates licensed from Baylor College.
After the phase-3 data is submitted, India can expect an improvement in the immunisation programme.
