India has reported 20,799 new Covid-19 cases. The total recoveries across the country so far are 3,31,21,247. According to the health ministry’s data, 26,718 patients recovered during the last 24 hours. The active caseload is currently at 2,64,458, which is the lowest in 200 days with a cumulative total of more than 3.38 crore cases. The national recovery rate of Covid-19 has increased to 97.89%, which is the highest since March 2020 with 26,718 patients recovering during the last 24 hours till 8:00 am. The active cases account for less than 1% of total cases, currently at 0.78%.
The weekly positivity rate stood at 1.63%, less than 3% for last 101 days. The daily positivity rate is 2.10%, less than 3% for last 35 days
The testing capacity has also been substantially ramped up to 57.42 crore in the country.
India’s vaccination drive
Cumulative vaccine doses administered so far have reached 90.79 crore.
The new phase of universalisation of the vaccination programme commenced from June 21. Under the programme, the central government made inoculation free of cost for all adults. Vaccines were earlier free for people above 45 years of age.
According to the ministry, more than 70% of the deaths that have been reported are due to comorbidities.
Zydus Cadila proposes Rs 1900 for three-dose vaccine
The national government and Zydus Cadila are in talks over the pricing of the Covid-19 vaccine ZyCov-D, and the pharma firm is said to have proposed a price of Rs 1,900 for the three-dose jab that can be given to anybody over the age of 12.
The government, on the other hand, is negotiating a lower price, and a final decision is expected this week, according to sources familiar with the situation.
