India has reported 34,403 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The total recoveries across the country so far are 3,25,98,424. According to the health ministry’s data, 37,950 patients recovered during the last 24 hours. The active caseload is currently at 3,39,056 with a cumulative total of more than 3.33 crore cases. The national recovery rate of Covid-19 has increased to 97.65% with 37,950 patients recovering during the last 24 hours till 8:00 am. The active cases account for less than 2% of total cases, currently at 1.02%.
The weekly positivity rate stands at 1.97%, less than 3% for the last 83 days. The daily positivity rate was reported to be less than 3% at 2.94% for the last 17 days.
The testing capacity has also been substantially ramped up to 54.92 crore in the country.
India’s vaccination drive
Cumulative vaccine doses administered so far have reached 77.24 crores. In the month of August, more than 18.3 crore doses have been administered.
With the administration of 63,97,972 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, the country’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage surpassed the cumulative figure of 77.24 crore (77,24,25,744) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.
The new phase of universalisation of the vaccination programme commenced from June 21. Under the programme, the central government made inoculation free of cost for all adults. Vaccines were earlier free for people above 45 years of age.
The government (free of cost channel) and through the direct state procurement category has provided more than 77.77crore (77,77,26,335) vaccine doses to states/UTs so far.
Further, more than 6.17 crore (6,17,22,315) balance and unutilized Covid vaccine doses are still available with the states/UTs to be administered.
According to the ministry, more than 70% of the deaths that have been reported are due to comorbidities.
