Delhi’s sixth sero survey puts seropositivity rate at 97%

Delhi Health Minister Saryendar Jain on Thursday said that the sixth serological survey showed that the national capital had a seropositivity rate of 97%. He said that a seroprevalence of more than 95% was found in all districts. From the survey, women had a higher seropositivity rate than men. Also, those aged below 18 had a seropositivity rate of 88%, while those above 18 had a seropositivity rate of 97 to 98%, he said. Further, those who have been vaccinated had a seropositivity rate of over 97%, while those are yet to be vaccinated had a 90% seropositivity rate, the minister added.

Fifth survey showed 56.13% developed antibodies

This is the first survey conducted since the brutal second wave of Covid-19 hit Delhi back in April and May. In January, the fifth round of sero survey had shown that 56.13% of the people in Delhi had developed antibodies against Covid-19. He also said that this was the largest sero survey ever carried out and 28,000 samples were collected.

Owing to the oxygen shortage and reduced supplies of essential medicines at hospitals, the second wave of the pandemic claimed a massive number of lives in Delhi back in April and May.

The national capital had reported 28,935 cases in April 20, which was the highest in the city since the beginning of the pandemic. The positivity rate was at 36.2% on April 22, the highest. On May 3, the highest number of deaths was reported  at 448.
