Disaster if vaccines are given to children without trials: Delhi HC

The Centre has said that a policy to administer Covid-19 vaccines to children will be formed after getting permission from experts.

The high court has sought directions for the immediate vaccination of those in the 12-17 age group.

The clinical trials for Covid-19 vaccines for children under 18 years of age are on the verge of completion, the Centre has told the Delhi high court. The Centre has said that a policy to administer Covid-19 vaccines to children will be formed after getting permission from experts

“Let the trials be done, otherwise it would be a disaster if vaccines are administered without trials that too in case of children,” Delhi HC bench which comprised of chief justice D N Patel and justice Jyoti Singh observed.

“Once trials are over, you quickly apply to children. The whole country is waiting,” it added.

The high court was hearing a PIL filed on behalf of a minor.

With the fear of the third wave of Covid-19 affecting more children, the high court has sought directions for the immediate vaccination of those in the 12-17 age group.

The court has listed the matter for further hearing on September 6.
