Flipkart to create 1.15 lakh seasonal job opportunities; adds 66 warehouses

Ahead of the festive season, Flipkart claims to have created over 1.15 lakh additional seasonal jobs to support its supply chain network. The Indian e-commerce company has stated that for the past few months it has established 66 new large-scale fulfillment and sortation centres in India. The company has widened its reach with tie-ups with kiranas. The senior vice president and head of supply chain Hemant Badri, told a news agency that initiatives like Big Billion Day sale, demand an increase in the company’s capacity, storage, placement, sorting, packaging, human resource, training, delivery, and the entire supply chain. For such initiatives, the company prepares itself beforehand.

The company has at present more than 100 centres with the addition of new warehouses and sortation centres in last 4 to 5 months. In states like Assam, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and West Bengal, Flipkart has established 66 new large-scale fulfillment and sortation centres.

To facilitate smooth processing of orders, these fulfilment centres are equipped with highly automated pick, pack and shipping processes.

Badri said that the company’s job creation during the festive time has seen an increase. The trend is seen every festive season. Job opportunities were 50,000 in 2019, 70,000 in 2020, and in 2021, it is more than a lakh.

“In 2021, Flipkart is creating direct seasonal employment for more than 1.15 lakh people, of which 15% are women and people with disabilities,” Badri said.

During the festive sales, companies witness huge sales. Many companies ramp up its capacity to be prepared for the rise in orders and work demand. A huge demand during the festive season is seen for electronics, fashion and home furnishing products.
