Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed officials to ensure free Remdesivir injections for Covid-19 infected patients admitted in government and private hospitals in the state.
Remdesivir doses are required to treat patients in certain critical situations. However, doctors have constantly advised to take it only in exceptional cases as it might have harmful impacts if taken without proper medical consultation.
Adityanath declared the state will arrange injections for government hospitals while private hospitals will have to buy it from the market itself.
But, in case of an emergency when private hospitals are not able to procure Remdesivir from outside – the District Magistrate (DM) and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) will provide the injection to patients directly.
Adityanath also issued a stern warning to those involved in illegal hoarding of Covid-19 related medicines. He said the National Security Act (NSA) could be charged against such people in the state. Meanwhile, CM also assured there was no shortage of oxygen cylinders in the state.

“In the last three days, fresh Covid-19 cases have gone down in the state. There is no shortage of beds, oxygen and life-saving drugs in the state,” CM was quoted as saying in several media reports.
Uttar Pradesh reported 33,574 new cases of Covid-19 on April 26 with 249 deaths due to the virus. This is the state’s highest death count registered in a single day during the pandemic.
