Customers of Indane, the LPG service of the country’s largest oil marketing company Indian Oil, can from August 9 book their LPG refill through a missed call alert. Those who want to make a request connection can also adopt this route.
Incidentally, on August 10, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch Ujjwala Yojana 2.0 – the second phase of the project – to make the LPG connections available to more common people.
Henceforth, all you have to do is ring 8454955555 to have an LPG connection delivered to your door. But the call has to go from the phone number registered with the company.
“For a company with one of the most extensive customer interfaces, our constant endeavour is to make today’s experience better than yesterday’s. I am confident that the missed call facility will play a crucial role in making LPG easily available to the consumers and enriching customer delight,” said S M Vaidya, chairman, Indian Oil in a statement.
The missed call facility for refill booking and new connections was launched in select markets as a pilot project in January 2021.
But from Tuesday it was rolled out across the country.
If you are an existing customer of Indane, then you can place an order for cylinder refilling just by dialing 8454955555 from your registered mobile phone and leave a message only. After getting the missed call and voice message from the customer, the company will book a refill that would be delivered within two days.
The same procedure can be used to obtain a new LPG connection. Customers can also receive fresh LPG connections by calling the same number and leaving a missed call.
After the missed call from the prospective customer, a representative from Indane would call you back and note down all the details. After verifying the Aadhaar card and address, the company would offer a new gas connection within 48 hours.
The missed call would reduce booking time within a few seconds. Besides, it is a very easy procedure and you need not listen to the IVR instructions and click the options.
For an elderly person, it will be very helpful, said the chairman of Indian Oil. Customers will not be charged a penny for using the missed call system, although they may be charged for IVRS calls while using other services. In rural areas, the missed call procedure could be a hit as the IVR system becomes a bit complicated for many.
Indian oil is also extending the facility to avail double bottle connection at the customer’s doorstep. Under this initiative, delivery personnel will offer existing single bottle connection customers the option to convert to a double bottle connection.
A double bottle connection means a customer can choose a 5 kg “chottu” cylinder as a backup with a regular 14.2 kg cylinder.
Till March 2021, there were 28.5 crore LPG connections in the country. Of them, about 83 lakh connections were given under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana since its launch on May 1, 2016.
Out of this 28.5 crore connection, Indane serves more than 15 crore connections. Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum have the rest of the share.
Within a 5-year span, the government has issued 83 lakh LPG connections to the poorer section of the society and aims to issue another 30 lakh by March 2022, which will be the target of Ujjwala 2.0.
