According to a report by Naukri JobSpeak, job postings in September showed a sequential growth of only 3% and remained almost flat with 2,753 job postings as against 2,673 in August. The sequential growth comes on the onset of the festive season and the easing of lockdown restrictions, it added. In April, during the second Covid wave, sequential numbers started to dwindle due to second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. This started to stabilise at a faster pace on May 1, the report said.
Since then, overall growth has been tremendous between June and July, with sectors like IT reaching an all-time high. The incremental growth between August and September, has also showed signs of healthier market, stronger than the pre-Covid-19 period across most cities and states, it said.
The report also added that, hiring activity was up by 4% in September, indicating that the industry is on a growth trajectory that they plan to sustain.
Across sector, Retail has witnessed a 16% growth in job postings, while travel and hospitality grew by 15% leading to a MoM growth in September.
Similarly, accounting and finance has also witnessed a spurt in hiring activity at 13%, followed by BPO/ITES at 12% and insurance and medical and healthcare sectors at 11% each, as compared to August.
According to the report, Kolkata topped the charts among metros, with the hiring activity at 10%, followed by Delhi-NCR at 10% and Pune at 6% in September as compared to August.
Other metros like, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad saw a 5% growth in hiring activity in the same period, the report said.
In the tier-2 cities, Ahmedabad recorded the highest growth of 11%, followed by Kochi at 10% and Vadodara at 7%, it said.
On the other hand, cities like Chandigarh, Coimbatore and Jaipur witnessed a flat growth in hiring activity in September, as against August.
