The sector that was the hardest hit by the Covid-19 was travel, tourism and hospitality. Job losses, business closures and massive erosion in revenue battered the segment over the past 15 months of the pandemic, with very little scope of immediate revival.
Things are now moving towards the better, as business and leisure travel has picked up, owing to a dip in the active cases and the easing of lockdown measures. The travel companies like MakeMyTrip, EaseMyTrip, ixigo and Cleartrip have started hiring people across different functions and verticals, as per a report in The Economic Times.
This surge in hiring is followed by a good recovery in demand. The recovery can be attributed to a nationwide vaccination drive that is picking up pace as well as travellers getting accustomed to the new ways of travelling. The need for more talent is also being driven by novel trends like staycations and workations, along with revenge travel and pent-up demand. The hiring is also being fuelled by a recovery in segments like hotels, holidays, cabs, trains and flights.
As per the media report, a MakeMyTrip official had said that they are acquiring talent aggressively for domains like revenue management, technology, design, and product and will continue to recruit for growth areas and new segments like myPartner and myBiz solution. There are close to 200 open positions in the company with many more in the pipeline.
Cleartrip, another big player in the travel domain, is also looking for aggressive hiring and building capabilities in the space of product, engineering, marketing, and business.
Ixigo has openings across domains like customer experience, technology and product. It had recently acquired Confirmtkt, a train ticketing platform and AbhiBus, a bus ticketing company, to consolidate its position in the market.
EaseMyTrip which currently has a headcount of 390 people has plans to grow its staff by 50% over the coming year. As per the report, the company is looking to accelerate its hiring by recruiting fresh talent along with reabsorbing people who had lost their jobs earlier.
