There is an emerging type of cyber fraud, where the scamster is not only stealing your identity, but also using it to hack and scam the accounts of your friends.

In many instances, facebook users have received messages stating that “page’s community standards and terms of use are not being followed. You’re sharing content which is misleading for others. Fake names and photos are being used. If there’s a mistake, click on the link below to review the same. Failure to do so within 24 hours would lead to deletion of the page”.

Since the sender is marked as Meta Business service, people assume that genuinely, facebook authorities are messaging them. That is why they click on the link, and their pages are hacked. Accounts of kids, especially teenage users are being targeted and cyber bullied. Hackers take away all pictures on messenger’s chat, and then threaten the user using these images.

Now that you have understood the modus operandi of these thugs, let’s see how you can save yourself from this.

First off, use social media carefully. Do not blindly trust any unknown messages. No social media platform can delete your account just like that. If any wrong activity is recorded from your account, the maximum platform can do is to suspend your account, and not delete it. That is why it is best to ignore such messages.

If you receive any message from a friend, call and verify directly with the person involved. This way, you’ll save yourself from frauds and account hacking. It will also alert your friend using whose name the message was sent to you.

Moreover, always keep your facebook page locked. This will ensure that no one, apart from your friends will be able to visit your page, see your pictures or copy your content. Take care if you are logging onto social media from any other device other than your personal ones. Don’t forget to log out, and always turn on log-in alert notifications. This way, you will get an alert every time someone else tries to access your account. Stay alert and don’t fall in the trap of cyber thugs.
