The Indian automobile industry is facing acute shortage of semiconductor chips which has affected production in September. The predicament is likely to continue throughout the festive season. Almost all the major automakers including Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Kia, Mahindra and Mahindra registered a decline in their sales last month. Maruti continued to be the biggest car brand in India. Among the top nine best-selling car models during the month, Maruti Suzuki had five models. Two Hyundai models, one Kia and Tata Motors model were also in the list.
Maruti Alto is the highest selling model of September 2021 in the country. It registered total sales of 12,143 units in September, 2021. But this figure was 13,236 units in the month of August.
Maruti Ertiga grabbed the second position. It reported almost double growth in the monthly sales from 6,251 units in August to 11,308 units in September.
Kia Seltos is the third most sold passenger vehicle and also the top selling SUV for September with total sales of 9,583 units. It is also reported a MoM sales growth.
In the fourth position was Tata Nexon. It was the best-selling subcompact SUV registering total sales of 9,211 units in September.
Following the Tata Nexon was the Hyundai Creta with total sales of 8,193 units.
The sixth place was taken by Maruti Baleno with total sales of 8,077 units. In August, however, the model sold as many as 15,646 units.
The seventh best seller was Hyundai Venue which saw a decline over the past month. It posted total sales of 7,924 units in September against 8,377 units in August.
Maruti Suzuki India dispatched 7,844 units of the Eeco to its dealers in September.
Maruti WagonR sold 7,632 units to grab the last position in the list. In August 9,628 units were sold.
