India is transitioning fast to modern technological advancements, especially in the domain of electric vehicles. Among states, Gujarat is leading the way in this race. India’s most affordable electric scooters are sold in Gujarat due to the subsidy provided by the state government. After the announcement of the subsidies on electric vehicles, the state is pacing up to develop charging infrastructure. It has already installed smart charging poles in Ahmedabad.
The steep fall in the price of electric two-wheelers is due to the increment in FAME-II subsidy and the Gujarat government’s EV policy. The buyers can now get a flat discount of Rs 20,000 on the overall price of the scooter.
The installation of three-in-one smart poles (electric poles) in Ahmedabad has already begun. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is installing 19 smart electricity poles worth Rs 2 crore on CG Road and adjoining areas of the city. These smart poles which are up to 7 metres high will charge the electric vehicle. One can also charge his/her mobile from these poles and use Wi-Fi.
Electric two-wheeler manufacturer Okinawa Autotech plans to cater to the electric scooter market in Gujarat. Okinawa has over 5,000 customers in Gujarat and aims to increase this number thrice by 2022. It aims to increase dealerships by 50% by the end of the current financial year.
The company’s e-scooters are Okinawa Ridge+, Okinawa Praise Pro, and Okinawa iPraise+. The company has reduced prices by up to Rs 37,000. The Okinawa Ridge+ is priced from Rs. 69,000 to Rs. 44,391. The Okinawa Praise Pro price has come down by Rs. 84795 to Rs. 57,848 and the Okinawa iPraise+ price has come down by Rs. 1.17 lakh to Rs. 79,708.
The ex-showroom price of Ather 450X is Rs. 1,26,926 in Ahmedabad, as the customer gets a subsidy of Rs. 20,000. This price is Rs. 5,500 less than its price in Delhi (Rs. 1,32,426). Ather 450 Plus and Ather 450X electric scooters are now the cheapest e-scooters in Ahmedabad. These prices are the cheapest when compared to other states in India.
A discount of Rs. 12,000 on the BaaT-RE scooter is offered to the students. The discount amount will be directly credited to their bank account. Apart from providing free insurance and accessories, the company also offers a 40% discount on the purchase of cycles.
The NYX HS500 ER scooter from Hero Electric is available at Rs.79,900 without subsidy. Hero Electric aims to build a network of 1,500 touchpoints in India by the end of 2021. The Bajaj Chetak Urbane is priced at Rs. 1 lakh without subsidy and dealer discount.
Under Gujarat’s new e-vehicle policy, a subsidy of up to Rs 20,000 is available on 2-wheeler EVs, Rs 50,000 on 3-wheeler EVs, while a subsidy of up to Rs 1.5 lakh is available on a 4-wheeler EVs. A subsidy of Rs 10 lakh is available for setting up a charging station in Gujarat.
