There are more than one million vacancies in various government posts in the country. In Lok Sabha, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said this in response to a questio. He said that the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) For this, instructions have been issued to the Center continuously. Responding in Parliament, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said that according to the annual report of Salary Research Units of the Department of Expenditure, as on March 1, 2023, the total number of vacant posts in government departments were 9,64,359. These vacancies include Central Ministries, Autonomous Bodies, Health and Education Institutions, Public Sector Undertakings, Public Sector Banks etc. Various posts in these departments like Staff Selection Commission, Union Public Service Commission, Railway Recruitment Board, IBPS etc. Recruitment is done through recruitment agencies.

In the Lok Sabha, Trinamool Congress MP Mala Roy and Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader Nama Nageswara Rao had sought information about the vacant posts from the Prime Minister’s Office. In response to this, Union Minister Jitendra Singh told in the Lok Sabha that till March 2022 there were 9,64,359 vacancies for government jobs, but he did not tell the number of vacancies that have been filled so far.

Mala Roy and Nama Nageswara Rao sought information on the total number of vacant posts in government departments during the last ten years. He also asked whether all the vacancies were filled during the last ten years, if so, the year-wise details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor? Also what action has been taken/proposed to be taken to fill all these vacancies and by when the recruitment will be completed?

Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said that SSC and RRB have recommended 1,03,196 candidates for appointment in the first quarter of 2023-24. The government has also issued instructions to fill the vacant posts of all ministries and departments on time. In another reply, he said that filling up of vacant posts in various ministries and departments is a continuous process. Employment fairs organized by the government will act as a catalyst in generating employment and self-employment.
