Madhya Pradesh has been ranked as the top state in the Leader category in the Startup Ranking 2022 by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). The results of State Startup Ranking 2022 and National Startup Awards 2023 were announced at the event held at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on Tuesday. Piyush Goyal, Ministry of Commerce and Industry minister presented this award to Rohit Singh, Director of Madhya Pradesh MSME Department.
Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav in an X message, complimented the state MSME department for this achievement. He also praised the education department for the various programmes organised by it.

Secretary, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Department, P Narhari congratulated his team from Madhya Pradesh for developing a strong ecosystem in the state. It is noteworthy that the Madhya Pradesh government has taken commendable steps in the field of startups, which include developing effective mechanisms for startup awareness in higher education institutions of the state, creation of interactive portals and organizing meetings between startups and investors.
The Madhya Pradesh government had implemented its new Madhya Pradesh Startup Policy and Implementation Plan 2022 in February 2022, which was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A startup conclave was organized in Indore in May 2022. As a result of the said new policy, the number of DPIIT recognized startups in the state has increased by more than 108% in just one year and eleven months.
Among other categories, Gujarat, Kerala and Karnataka offer the best ecosystem for startups, while Maharashtra, Telangana and Rajasthan lead in top performers.
India has the world’s third largest startup ecosystem. The ranking system evaluated the states on seven reform areas and 25 actions points.
